Want a Samsung Chromebook 2? Be prepared to wait.

Sometimes you have to wait for a good thing. Here's one example.

The Samsung Chromebook 2 looks to be a killer machine, with some of the best specs yet for a Chromebook. But don't start licking your chops yet, because if you want it, you're going to have to wait.

There are two versions of the Chromebook 2, and both look to be impressive machines. The smaller model, with an 11.6-inch screen, will cost $320, and comes with HD resolution, an Exynos 5 Octa 1.9 Ghz processor with eight cores, 4 GB of RAM, and 16 GB of hard disk space. It's rated at 8 hours of battery life. You'll get an additional 100 GB of cloud-based storage for free on Google Drive. It doesn't look like your typical Chromebook, and comes with a stitched leather back.

Its big brother, a 13.3-incher, features a slightly faster processor, at 2 Ghz, and has a battery rated at 8.5 hours. Its screen has 1920 x 1080 resolution, compared to the 1366 x 768 resolution on the 11.6-inch device. It sells for $400.

Both are available for pre-order right now, from either Amazon or the Samsung Web site. That makes it sound you can get one pretty soon. Unfortunately, though, you can't. Amazon lists a black version of the 11.6-inch machine as being available May 7, and the 13-inch version available a little over a week later on May 15. And if you want the white version of the 11.6-inch machine, you'll have to wait longer still -- until May 29.

By the way, Amazon may be trying to pull a fast one with the white version, so be forewarned. It shows the list price as $319.99, but has it crossed out and for the price it has the text, "See price in cart." Sounds like you'll get a deal if you buy it, yes? Well, no, not really. Put it in your cart, and you see that you'll pay $319, for a grand saving of 99 cents. Come on, Amazon, you're better than tricks like that.
