Install MATE 1.8 desktop in Linux Mint 16

Add version 1.8 of MATE to your Linux Mint 16 computer

MATE 1.8 has been released, here's how you can install it in Linux Mint 16.

1. Open a terminal window.

2. Type in the following commands then hit Enter after each.

sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://repo.mate-desktop.org/ubuntu saucy main"

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get --yes --quiet --allow-unauthenticated install mate-archive-keyring

3. For base packages only, use this command:

sudo apt-get install mate-core

For the full desktop environment use this command:

sudo apt-get install mate-desktop-environment

MATE 1.8 comes with support for window snapping/side-by-side tiling to the window manager, support for both Metacity and Marco windows managers, IEC units support for Caja, and a lot of bug fixes.
