Software, app developers top hot jobs list for 2014

Four of the Top 12 high-wage, fast-growing jobs are in IT

It will be a bright new year for developers, as the already-high demand for their skills is expected to continue to rise in 2014.

Software, app and system developers saw more than 100,000 jobs created 2010-2013, topping the list of fastest-growing high-wage jobs in the U.S., according to a study by CareerBuilder and Economic Modeling Specialists Intl.

"More high-wage jobs will be created in 2014 which will, in turn, fuel the creation of jobs at lower pay levels," says CareerBuilder CEO Matt Ferguson. "The challenge is many of these in-demand, skilled positions are in areas where companies are already experiencing a shortage of qualified labor."

Web developers landed in the No. 6 spot, seeing job growth of 11% over the past three years and the creation of 13,364 jobs. Other IT jobs landing in the Top 12 include database admins (11,241 jobs added 2010-2013, up 10%) and information security analysts (5,671 jobs added 2010-2013, up 8%).
