Like most of you, I have a day job. Usually when there's a big Apple reveal event I massage my schedule so that I can follow along, but yesterday I wasn't able to do that, so I had to catch up with the Apple announcements after that fact. I also wasn't plugged into social media while the event was happening.
But now that I'm catching up, I'm feeling a little underwhelmed. I think part of me still misses the old Jobs' "One last thing" routine. I knew this was the iPhone event but I was still hoping to get a little something extra.
Maybe it's my pro-Android bias showing, but Apple just doesn't seem as exciting as it used to be. Hmm, or maybe it would be more accurate to say that Apple events don't seem to be as exciting.
There's no doubting the fact that the new iPhone 5s is a solid upgrade, and this is the 5s and not the iPhone 6, so upgrade is what we were expecting. I do think we're reaching the point where our mobile devices feel 'fast enough' and I'm not sure what that A7 chip will enable the 5s to do that the 5 couldn't, though I'm looking forward to being schooled there.
But I was really hoping to see some time devoted to a new/upgraded Apple TV, a new iPad, or something completely unique, like an Apple micro-gaming console and support for an official iOS game controller.
We're already back to rumors/assumptions that Apple will have another event in October to talk about new iPads (at the very least) and maybe that's where the company is losing me: instead of having one big event they're breaking up product introductions into several focused events, and that takes away from the spectacle of Apple announcements.
Maybe I would've felt more excitement if I'd been following the event live. Or maybe I'm just a bitter, jaded Android user (though I still use an iPad so I'm not a complee troll). What do you think? What was your reaction to the Apple event yesterday?
