Elgato Systems, the maker of a number of well-received "digital media" hardware products, has introduced EyeTV Mobile, an antenna-based system that lets iPad and iPhone users watch live TV over the air, even if they don't have Internet access.
The EyeTV tuner plugs into the dock-connector port of your iOS device; it also works with Apple's Lightning-to-30-pin adapter, if you have a more recent iPhone or iPad. In conjunction with the free EyeTV Mobile app, it can pull the live TV signal out of the air and onto your device via a miniature telescoping antenna. (See the video below for a demonstration.) The fact that it's not limited to an Internet connection also means users won't take a big chunk out of their cellular data plan while watching on the go.

The app lets users pause and resume live TV, allowing them take a break during live events; just in case you need to surf the Web or send an email during your favorite show. It also supports closed captioning and lets you email or tweet program recommendations from the built-in programming guide.
Potential buyers can use this interactive map to see what local channels are available to them via EyeTV (some places have limited options, due to Elgato's partnership with Dyle mobile TV service). The product itself costs $100, and is compatible with the iPhone 4 or later, fourth-generation iPod touch or later, and all generations of iPad.
