OK, maybe I was a bit hasty a few months ago when I declared that Angry Birds had jumped the shark. I really thought the team-up with the Philadelphia Eagles NFL franchise had shown that the Rovio Mobile (which makes the highly successful app) had turned to gimmicks for new products. Of course, the way the Eagles are playing this year, they could certainly use some Mighty Eagles on their side.
The latest "gimmick" from Rovio and Angry Birds has them teaming up in the Star Wars universe. Angry Birds Star Wars launched today, and although Rovio has been teasing us for a few weeks with small snippets and animations, today we get a cinematic trailer, basically the scene from the cantina on Mos Eisley, but with Angry Bird-ification of the characters Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Han Solo, Chewbacca, R2-D2 and C-3PO.
Enjoy or cringe, depending on your love/hatred of Angry Birds. I just hope this isn't the plot for Episode VII:
You can download the game for iOS devices, Android devices (via Google Play), the PC, Amazon Kindle, Macintosh, Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. Once again, BlackBerry users are left watching other people play.
I wonder if they'll be angry.
