EU Justice Commissioner dreams up her own invention

Reding puts a smart digital wallet on her wish list

Europe's top justice regulator is turning her hand to digital invention.

European Justice Commissioner, Viviane Reding, says that her ideal tech product has yet to be invented. In an interview with Cable Europe she said she would like to have an intelligent, digital wallet, "where I can programme each day, how much money I spend."

And the Commissioner has thought her app through: "This wallet should automatically lock itself as soon as my limit is reached. The smart wallet should allow me to go above the set limit only in exceptional circumstances and only under the condition, that on other days I will spend less than initially planned and programmed."

Reding was formerly the E.U.'s telecommunications commissioner, but puts her digital inventiveness down to the traditional frugality of the Luxembourgish house wife "who never spends more than she has at her disposal."
