Good timing on the part of DigInfo News out of Japan, which brings us an update on the Swumanoid, a swimming android robot that aims to help athletes swim faster.
Developed at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, the robot "is expected to help researchers analyze how people can swim faster, and develop speed-enhancing swimming apparel," but we all know the real reason - so when the robots eventually take over from humans, they'll be able to hold the Robot Olympics:
Judging from the swimming style in this video, the Swumanoid won't be contending for gold any time soon, but it could probably beat me in a quick race.
