Trying to make Episode I better

Darth Maul returns tonight; Star Wars fan gets out his editing pencil

There are two different videos out today that make a point about the lasting goodness of Star Wars, Episode I. Having recently taken my son to see the 3D re-release of the 1999 film, I can honestly say that yeah, there were some things that needed to be improved.

First up, some good news for Darth Maul fans. He returns tonight for a special four-part arc in the Clone Wars series on Cartoon Network. Here's a preview:

The other video that caught my attention is from BelatedMedia, which presents an 11-minute review/critique of Episode I, and how to make the movie better by doing things like eliminating Jar Jar, focusing the story around Obi-Wan, making Anakin less annoying and keeping Darth Maul around for the entire prequel series. Bonus clip! As part of the Lego Star Wars: Padawan Menace DVD that recently got released, they added the following clip that's been on YouTube for a few years, but I didn't see it until yesterday. It's a great video showing how to use Jar Jar in a comedy role without ruining the rest of the movie:
