Xbox 720 a no-show at this year's E3

Yesterday afternoon we gamers heard some potentially bad news: Microsoft has announced that they won't be showing the Xbox 720 at E3 this year.

Microsoft told Kotaku "...we can confirm that there will be no talk of new Xbox hardware at E3 or anytime soon. For us, 2012 is all about Xbox 360-and it's the best year ever for Xbox 360... This year, we will build on that Xbox 360 momentum. With "Halo 4," "Forza Horizon," "Fable: The Journey," and other great Kinect games on the way, our 2012 Xbox lineup is our strongest ever" while over at Bloomberg the mysterious 'sources' are already chattering, saying "The company may show the successor to its Xbox 360 in June 2013 at the E3 conference and put it on sale that same year."

If these sources are right, it'd be a fast journey from announcement to launch, but it'd mean we'd still get a new Xbox for holiday 2013, which is about the earliest anyone has expected it to arrive anyway. If so, maybe the news isn't that bad after all; it just means another year of speculating about the next generation Xbox!

Sony has already said that they weren't showing a PS4 at E3 2012, so that means Nintendo will have the 'new hardware' spotlight all to itself this year as they do their utmost to get us excited about the Wii U, set to ship this upcoming holiday season.
