In this brief 10-second clip, an adult Matthew Broderick throws open the curtains to some posh bedroom suite, and offers an updated take on his famous line from Ferris Bueller's Day Off: "How can I handle work on a day like today?" Then we get the iconic "Bowmp bowmp .... chuckachucka" music and the date "2.5.2012".
Is this a teaser for a Ferris Bueller's Day Off sequel that will be released in less than two weeks and send Gen-Xers everywhere into throes of nostalgic joy? Well, maybe, if you believe that somehow an incredibly highly anticipated film could be written, green-lit, and filmed without anyone having heard of it. Since February 5 is the day of the Super Bowl, it's more likely heralding some sort of Ferris-themed Super Bowl ad that Broderick participated in because he needed money, (or attention, which would be even more depressing).
On the other hand, the concept of a teaser for a commercial is an interesting development in modern life. It's up to you to decide if this shows more or less dignity than just releasing the ads weeks in advance on the Internet.
UPDATE: The folks over at Jalopnik are reporting that this is a Super Bowl ad from Honda, advertising for the new CR-V. The clip will mimic the original movie, but instead of Ferris and Cameron jumping into a Ferrari, they'll be jumping into a CR-V.
