Holographic images you can touch

Microsoft HoloDesk lets you interact with 3D virtual objects

The folks at Microsoft Research have uploaded a video showing off its HoloDesk, an interactive system that combines an "optical see through display and Kinect camera to create the illusion that users are directly interacting with 3D graphics." Watch here:

The image of a 3D scene is projected through a half silvered mirror and spatially alighed with the real world for the viewer, Microsoft says. Users can reach into an area that displays the virtual image, and the Kinect camera senses this and allows "physically realistic interaction between real and virtual 3D objects.

Very cool stuff here.
