Creepy Japanese robot sings karaoke

Seriously, a little design work would make this robot a lot less frightening

In the world of creepy-looking Japanese robots, it's hard to beat this one. A "robot mouth" developed by Professor Hideyuki Sawada at Kawaga University in Japan can sing karaoke songs, but also talk.

As you can see in these two videos, the robot looks like a nose and a mouth, but it also looks like a lot of other things that only YouTube commenters can imagine (we'll decline to tell you what we think it looks like).

The Japanese may be pioneering in the field of robotics, but they're also leading the world in coming up with videos that make us cringe.

By the way, if you want to see a singing robot that's a whole lot less creepy, check out this video that the IDG News Service produced a few years ago:

See, not as creepy!
