JavaOne dates set for October

The conference will be held at the same time as Oracle OpenWorld, but Oracle says JavaOne will be a standalone event

The JavaOne conference will live on for another year.

In separate blogs on Monday, Oracle posted the dates of the event, which is to be held the first week of October, again in San Francisco. JavaOne has been devoted to the multiple facets of the Java enterprise software development platform founded by Sun Microsystems in 1995. As it was in 2010, JavaOne will be held at the same time as the Oracle OpenWorld conference. But JavaOne will be held as a standalone event, Oracle stressed.

"After receiving tremendous constructive input and support from the community, we are pleased to announce that JavaOne 2011 will be held October 2-6, 2011 in San Francisco. With increased investment and significant improvements, Oracle is committed to making JavaOne a success again this year and into the future," said Tori Wieldt, in a blog post from the Oracle Java team.

Submissions for papers to be presented are being considered for topics including: core Java platforms; emerging languages, tools, and techniques; enterprise service architectures and the cloud; Java EE (Enterprise Edition) Web profile and platform technologies; Java ME (Micro Edition), mobile, embedded, and devices; Java SE (Standard Edition), client-side technologies and rich user experiences; and "The Java Frontier." Oracle expects to open the call for papers on April 27 and conclude it on May 23.

"For the past 15 years, JavaOne has been the leading collaboration and learning event bringing the Java community together. With an excitingyear for Java ahead, including the anticipated release of JDK 7 and JavaFX 2.0, the event will continue to provide up-to-date quality content as well as a look into what the future holds for Java," Wieldt said.

JavaOne had been a Sun Microsystems conference until Oracle acquired Sun last year. Questions arose about whether Oracle would continue the event, but those questions have been answered for 2011, at least.
