FCC orders Verizon to pay a second round of fines for phoney mobile charges

Verizon Wireless agreed to pay the U.S. government $25 million to settle complaints it has been overcharging customers without unlimited Internet-access plans by counting every mistaken or accidental activation of a phone's Web-access function as a legitimate connection, often charging a full minute's cost even if the connection was broken almost immediately.

Earlier it had agreed to refund as much as $90 million to 15 million customers hit with what it called "accidental data charges."
