With FarmVille being among the most popular video games of any description in the world, it's now possible that more Americans play the game than actually work on real farms. Some agriculture companies, like General Mills' organic subsidiary Cascadian Farm, are trying to connect with FarmVille players by connecting their real-life products with in-game experiences. But many real farmers decry the game as unrealistic:
"I hate FarmVille," Rob Williams, communications professor at Champlain College and co-owner of a Vermont yak farm, told AOL News. "I think it's a tremendous example of how electronic social media/networking creates the illusion of something like farming at a time when we really need to learn about farming in the real world."
