Google is launching a reseller program for its SaaS-based Google Apps Premier Edition. The productivity suite includes email, chat, word processing, a spreadsheet, presentation software, security, and compliance. The suite competes against a similar SaaS offering from Microsoft.
Google doesn't have a lot of experience in the reseller channel, but two things are working in the company's favor. First of all, resellers are looking for new opportunities because of the recessionary economy, and second, the popularity of SaaS is driving many VARs to expand their interests to include just the type of products that Google is offering.
Google partners will get a 20 percent discount, and recurring revenue on the per-year subscription fee, and can also add their own services to the offering.
