The Redmond Channel Partner notes that Microsoft's Software plus Services strategy has been "more talk than substance" in the past, but reveals a few more details about the strategy in relation to the channel.
It's still unknown however, how the plan will affect the channel in the long run. The plan gives Microsoft control over customer accounts. Although customers will do business with Microsoft partners, here's the bit that's a little harsh: After the partner gets the commission for signing up the cusotmer, Microsoft does all the billing, sets the prices, and upsells other services. And of course, for most resellers, it's the upsell where the big money comes in--and that's now off the table.
