Slashdot, a popular, edgy Web site that offers news and discussions about Linux and related issues, has been acquired by, an Acton, Mass.-based Web site that offers information, downloads and other services for Web developers.

In a press release, the companies said Slashdot executives Rob Malda and Jeff Bates will retain creative control of the site -- which, among other things, labels stories about Microsoft Corp. with an image of Chairman Bill Gates as a Borg from the Star Trek series.

Combined, the sites have 2.5 million unique visitors and 35 million page impressions per month, according to the release.
