Novell Inc. today announced that it has purchased Ukiah Software Inc., a developer of network management software that it hopes to incorporate into a new networking product by the end of the year.
Ukiah, a privately held company in Campbell, Calif., produces software that controls the pipeline that routes data information within business networks and over the Internet, enabling the allocation of network bandwidth within the company.
A company can use the software to ensure critical operations, such as an online financial service, are allocated enough bandwidth, said Jonathan Cohen, a Novell spokesman, in a telephone interview.
Novell plans to integrate the product with its directory services software. Terms of the purchase weren't disclosed.
