Lotus buys Macromedia software

Computer World –

Lotus Development Corp. today announced that it will acquire Pathware, Macromedia Inc.'s authoring software for Web-based learning. Lotus will also distribute certain other Macromedia products, including Macromedia Director, to the online learning market. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

Macromedia was one of Lotus' chief competitors in the online learning market. Pathware is mainly geared toward self-directed learning. The product will now be integrated with Lotus LearningSpace.

Last year, Lotus, an IBM subsidiary, acquired two companies, DataBeam Corp. and Ubique Ltd., to add their technologies to LearningSpace.
