PeopleSoft Inc. today said sales of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) application package aimed at small and midsize users are being handed off to resellers outside of four metropolitan areas -- San Francisco, Chicago, Atlanta and the New York/New Jersey region.
The Pleasanton, Calif.-based vendor plans to continue direct sales of the PeopleSoft Select package in those areas, but it's looking to sign on seven to 10 software implementation firms to cover the rest of the U.S.
PeopleSoft, which is trying to cope with a sales slowdown that hit the ERP market this year, said it expects to have at least some resellers in place during the third quarter. In addition, two outsourcing companies -- Corio Inc. in Redwood City, Calif., and USinternetworking Inc. in Palo Alto, Calif. -- plan to start selling PeopleSoft Select nationally.
PeopleSoft officials said they're "encouraging" an unspecified number of PeopleSoft Select salespeople to jump to the two outsourcing firms or to the resellers that sign up to push the mid-market package.
PeopleSoft also is expanding the hardware options offered with the package to include Unix servers.
