TaskKill - a new and powerful utility

TaskKill, a new utility included with Windows XP Professional, allows

you to kill any running task. To kill the task, you need to know the

process ID (PID) or the name of the running task (ImageName), both of

which can be found using the complementary utility TaskList. (See last

week's article on the TaskList utility to see how to view a complete

list of running tasks[1].)

After you have obtained a list of tasks running with TaskList, or if you

already know the name of the task that you want to kill, eliminating the

running task is as simple as opening up a command prompt and typing a

command of the form
