RIM, HP partner for remote printing from BlackBerry

ITworld.com –

Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP) and BlackBerry PDA (personal digital assistant) maker Research in Motion Ltd. (RIM) have entered into a strategic alliance to create software for printing documents over the PDAs.

The companies are working on a program that would allow the BlackBerry devices to print documents such as e-mails and attachments remotely, a spokeswoman for HP in the U.K. confirmed. The spokeswoman for RIM in the U.K. was unable to comment immediately on any alliance between the two companies.

HP and RIM are aiming to launch the HP Mobile Enterprise Printing application some time in 2002, the HP spokeswoman said.

RIM is planning to launch its BlackBerry wireless e-mail service in the U.K. this month. The service, which operates on GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) mobile networks, will be launched in the Netherlands by the end of the year and elsewhere in Europe in 2002.
