Ed is president and founder of Mier Communications Inc., a Princeton Junction, N.J.-based network consultancy and product test center. The firm provides private and comparative network product testing, LAN/WAN "converged" network design, network equipment specification, implementation, product selection and integration services.
Besides more than 20 years experience as a network designer and implementer, Ed was also managing editor of Data Communications magazine, a regular contributor and columnist, and author of product-test reports and features for numerous trade press periodicals. Ed was also previously a senior analyst with Data Decisions and a senior staff member with Datapro Research Corp., where he specialized in analyzing and reporting on data networks and equipment, network and communications protocols and architectures.
Ed has authored more than 200 ground-breaking feature articles covering all aspects of communications and networking. These have been published in Business Week, Network World, Byte, Popular Computing, Business Communications Review, Communications Week and a dozen other periodicals. His articles have been translated into numerous foreign languages.
His consulting achievements include the complete design and deployment of several global networks and dozens of LAN and campus networks. His areas of expertise include voice over IP, Layer 2/3 switching, Gigabit Ethernet, LAN diagnostics, performance optimization, and network management.
Ed holds a Bachelors degree in Journalism from Lehigh University (Bethlehem, Pa.) and has completed graduate study in Computer Science and graduate work toward an MBA.
