Astral Point Communications this week announced it has added OC-192 network links to its line of metropolitan area optical networking products.
The new Optical Service Modules for Astral Point's ON 5000 Optical Service Node allow service providers to provision 2.5G bit/sec and 10G bit/sec services without having to deploy multiple OC-192 SONET rings to send OC-48 and OC-192 traffic over SONET links. Astral Point currently offers OC-3, OC-48 and Gigabit Ethernet private line service modules.
One of the new modules maps a single OC-192 SONET-compatible signal to an OC-192 dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) wavelength. The second module multiplexes four OC-48 SONET compatible signals into a single OC-192 DWDM wavelength. This second module can be optionally integrated as an ON 5000 line card to scale the ON 5000 to OC-192 network links, Astral Point says.
The OC-192 interfaces will be available for trials in the fourth quarter and generally available in the first quarter of 2001. Pricing will be established at the time of release, the company says.
