Trend Micro adds security product for SMBs

Computerworld Singapore –

Trend Micro Inc. has developed a security solution specifically for small and medium businesses (SMBs), according to Ang Ah Sin, regional marketing manager, Asia South, Trend Micro. In line with Trend Micro's focus on the SMB market, the company launched three such products in Singapore last week.

These are the InterScan VirusWall for SMB 5.0, the Client/Server Suite for SMB 2.0 and the Client/Server Messaging Suite for SMB 2.0.

InterScan VirusWall for SMB 5.0 is an all-in-one gateway anti-virus and content security system that can filter Web traffic as well, shielding SMBs from viruses that arrive through Web-based e-mail accounts, such as those on Hotmail or YahooMail.

Client/Server Suite for SMB 2.0 provides protection for desktops and laptops, and servers against multiple security threats through a single, integrated console.

Client/Server/Messaging Suite for SMB 2.0 provides e-mail anti-virus security for customers with in-house Microsoft Exchange servers in addition to desktop and server protection.

All three products were designed for use by staff with no security knowledge and minimal IT experience. Common attributes include the easy removal of pre-existing anti-virus software during installation, automatic and transparent distribution of updates to protected devices and having browser-based management that enables control from anywhere.

According to Trend Micro, these "out-of-box" products are designed for easy installation and configuration and to provide robust functionality with a single interface to help reduce the costs of installing, learning and maintaining a secured business, as they do not require constant maintenance from technical support staff.

According to the Meta Group, SMBs lack adequate in-house security expertise to deal with the increased complexity of blended threats, and underestimate the intensity of damages that such incapacity could bring.

"Small and medium-sized businesses face the same security threats. Their ability and willingness to manage multiple and increasingly complex security solutions gets tested daily." said Lionel Phang, managing director for Asia South at Trend Micro.
