Your ISP's new job: copyright cop

Comcast, Verizon, AT&T, Time Warner and more ISPs will "mitigate" illegal downloading starting July 12.

Prodded primarily by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), major ISPs agreed last June to take steps to identify and stop their users from downloading illegal material. Peer to peer networks, including BitTorrent and others, will be monitored by the RIAA members, with help from the CCI (Center for Copyright Information). Downloaders of allegedly illegal material will be identified to their ISPs for a series of "educational steps."
