Free iWork Apps for New iOS Devices
There's quite a bit of Apple news today, thanks to today's event in California. Probably the biggest surprise of the day was Apple's announcement that the iWork apps for iOS will be free for new iOS device owners. Now you can get Pages, Keynote and Numbers for your iPad or iPhone without paying a cent.
Normally, Pages, Numbers and Keynote cost $9.99 each, while iPhone and iMovie cost $4.99 a piece.
According to Cook, when you first turn on and use a new iOS device, which includes the iPhone 5C and 5S, iPads and fifth-generation iPod Touch, you’ll be greeted with a screen to download the iWork suite.More at All Things D
I have to admit that I was shocked when Apple announced this. But it's a great idea on their part since the iWork apps help to differentiate the iOS platform from competing ones such as Android. You can't get iWork apps on non-Apple devices.
Making the iWork apps free definitely adds real value to any iOS device. I suspect there will be a lot of new iOS device owners who will be pleasantly surprised when they turn on their device and find that they can download iWork apps free of charge.
iPhone 5S and 5C Announced
Much less surprising was the announcement of the iPhone 5S and 5C. The iPhone 5S comes with a 64-bit A7 processor, as well as a new fingerprint sensor, and a slightly wider range of colors (silver, grey and gold). The iPhone 5C replaces the iPhone 5, and comes in blue, pink, white, yellow and green.
