DuckDuckGo versus Google
LibreTechTips compares DuckDuckGo to other search engines including Google and Bing. The review seems to indicate that DuckDuckGo's recent redesign is standing it in good stead, particularly with Google.
According to LibreTechTips:
The competition between Google and DuckDuckGo proved to be surprisingly fierce. In many respects the tiny DuckDuckGo holds its own against the giant that is Google, and even more so if the user is willing to slightly manipulate the search query to work around DuckDuckGo’s temperamental intelligence layer. So it is heartening to see that DuckDuckGo is a viable alternative to Google by its own merits.
But the elephant in the room here is Google’s extensive tracking of user data. For that reason many users will staunchly avoid it on moral grounds, and for them the natural recourse is DuckDuckGo. Fortunately for them, it’s a really great choice. In my case, privacy is not a primary concern. But having a top-notch search engine is. That’s why I set DuckDuckGo as my browser’s default search engine, and here’s hoping it stays there for a long time.More at LibreTechTips
DuckDuckGo has become my favorite search engine, there's so much to like about it. I'm very happy that it's becoming a real competitor for Google. If you aren't familiar with DuckDuckGo you can get more information on the About DuckDuckGo page or just hit DuckDuckGo.com to give it a try right now.
Kids and old computers
Here's a great video about kids trying to figure out an old computer.
It must be truly discombobulating for them to go from today's computers and mobile devices to that fossil from thirty years ago. They did pretty well with it though, once they figured out how to turn it on. Heh.
