The InterWebs are buzzing with activity after two new trailers for summer movies were published today - first up we get a new Iron Man 3 trailer, with all sorts of super heroics and explosions. We also recently saw a new trailer for Monsters University from Disney/Pixar, the prequel to its Monsters, Inc. film.
In the world of movie trailers, after the "official trailer #2" is released is when I'll stop actively looking for new trailers. The typical cycle is this - teaser trailer, official trailer #1, official trailer #2, and then things like TV trailer and behind-the-scenes footage, interviews, etc. Teaser trailers generally don't show much, and the first trailers show some stuff from the movie, but leave viewers with some mystery. With the second trailer, everyone should have a good sense of what the movie is about - any trailers after that with any new content tends to spoil the moviegoing experience - because many will feel like they've seen most of the movie by then.
With that in mind, here are the two new "#2" trailers - in Iron Man 3, the "squee" moment comes at the end when we see glimpses of Tony Stark's Iron Man "army."
As for Monsters University, this one might be a tougher sell, as prequels don't usually go over as well as sequels do, and this "college movie" plot seems kind of dumb (in my opinion). I may have to wait for a third trailer in this case.
What do you think? Do you watch every trailer and teaser as it comes out, or do you stop at the second one (or earlier)? Let me know in the comments.
