NASA has posted this all-age-friendly animated video to help explain the concept of "space weather" to people, especially focusing on Coronal Mass Ejections (CME).
The agency explains why CMEs are so important, whether it's to describe why satellites can get damaged or why astronauts doing spacewalks need to get back inside.
In case you were wondering what a CME looks like from one of NASA's satellites, check out this one from July 19, 2012, which not only captured a CME, but a fiery loop of "cosmic rain":
I hope that NASA does some more of these, to get younger folks interested in learning more space terminology. Great job, NASA!
