If you've followed this blog for any amount of time (and shame on you if you haven't!), you know I'm obsessed with robots that look like they're going to destroy humankind like the Terminator robots did in the movies.
The group that keeps getting us closer and closer to that reality (no, it's not the Japanese) is from Boston Dynamics. In this video published by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), we get a video showing off the ATLAS robot, all to the beat of a very nice techno soundtrack. According to DARPA, "software-focused teams from Tracks B and C of the DARPA Robotics Challenge will use the robot to compete in the first physical competition of the Challenge in December 2013 at the Homestead-Miami Speedway."
While DARPA says that the challenge "seeks to advance the technology necessary to create robots capable of assisting humans in disaster response", I think we all know the real purpose of these robots.
