If you’re the kind of person - like, for instance, Bill Gates and Stephen Hawking - who worries about machines one day becoming smart enough to instigate a Terminator-like war against humans, then the work going on at the University of Maryland should make you sleep better tonight. Researchers at that school have created robots that are actually learning how to do things by watching YouTube. So far, they’ve learned how to cook but I have no doubt that the more they watch YouTube, the dumber and lazier they’re going to get, just like the rest of us. Bullet dodged!
