Whether there's an annoying auto-playing video ad or you just need to quickly mute the audio playing on a website, this quick trick will give you instant muting powers.
Right now, Chrome displays a sound icon in tabs where audio is playing, but that's all it does. If you head into Chrome's hidden settings, though, and enable a flag, you'll be able to simply click the audio icon in the tab to mute the sound.
Enter chrome://flags/#enable-tab-audio-muting in Chrome's address bar and then enable the "Enable tab audio muting UI control."
You'll need to restart your browser, but after that, you can toggle sound quickly without having to close the tab or head to the webpage to mute the audio. Take that, auto-playing ads.
