No one likes gadget chargers. The cords are a mess and plugging and unplugging your phones and tablets all the time to charge them is an inconvenience (a first world inconvenience, but an inconvenience nonetheless). What if you could just put your phone down on a table to charge it?
That's the idea IKEA is pursuing with its new "Home Smart" collection of furniture--tables, desks, and lamps with built-in charging pads using Qi wireless charging technology. It works with most major phone manufacturers, including Samsung, Motorola, HTC, LG, Asus, Nokia, and Sony.
If you're not a fan of the furniture, the company will also be selling wireless charging kits to insert into pre-existing furniture, Mental Floss reports. The Home Smart collection will be available starting April 15 in North America and Europe.
Wireless charging stations are nothing new, of course, and with our smart homes and the Internet of Everything it follows that our furniture should be smart as well. I'm just happy to get rid of that rat's mess of cables in my living room.
