When I'm bored and looking for short videos to watch online, I generally think first of YouTube, then maybe of Vimeo or these days even Vessel. I never think "Hey I should hit up Yahoo to watch some videos!" In fact the only time I really remember that Yahoo has videos is when there's some news about them.
That was the case yesterday when the company announced a deepening of their relationship with Disney/ABC Television Group.
This means you'll see more Disney and ABC content on Yahoo Screen and Yahoo TV, but what is probably more significant is that starting on March 16th, 2015, ABC's Good Morning America will begin airing a segment called “Yahoo Your Day" which will feature Yahoo's top editors and experts talking (presumably) about whatever is happening in their area of expertise. Names dropped include Yahoo Style editor-in-chief Joe Zee, Yahoo Beauty editor-in-chief Bobbi Brown, Yahoo Health editor-in-chief Michele Promaulayko and Yahoo Food editor-in-chief Kerry Diamond. Additionally Tumblr will be covered in a "Social Square" segment and Flickr images will be integrated into GMA's weather forecasts. Yahoo for everyone!
This might be a great opportunity for Yahoo to remind morning TV viewers that they exist. Good Morning America is currently quite popular. In fact ZapToIt posted yesterday that GMA is the number one morning newscast in Total Viewers (5.989 million), Adults 25-54 (2.176 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.554 million).
So will all these viewers start pointing their browsers at Yahoo? Time will tell. If not, at least seeing the "Yahoo Your Day" segment will keep the Yahoo brand fresh in their mind, and maybe next time one of these GMA viewers is looking for something to watch online they'll head to Yahoo instead of YouTube.
