There’s also some good news for BlackBerry Priv owners and those with a second-generation Moto G, so let’s break down this busy week.
Each week, we compile all the major software updates to hit the Android ecosystem, including phones and tablets on U.S. carriers, unlocked phones, Android Wear smartwatches, and Android TV devices. Making sure your device is running the latest available software is a good housekeeping practice, ensuring you have the latest features with fewer bugs and gaping security holes.
Galaxy Note 5: Happy Friday to you. According to Verizon, Android 6.0.1 is coming your way with all those nifty Marshmallow features, like Doze, Now on Tap, and multiple performance optimizations. Be on the lookout for software version VRU2BPB2.
Droid Turbo 2: After a misfire earlier in the week, Android Marshmallow is on its way for your Droid Turbo 2. Verizon says you can get the update over Wi-Fi or a “strong Verizon Wireless network connection.”
Moto G (second generation): More Marshmallow is coming, this time to Motorola’s second-generation budget phone. Multiple users have reported the update is going live, so keep your finger at the ready.
Priv: BlackBerry is pushing out a batch of updates for the core apps: BlackBerry Launcher, BlackBerry Keyboard, and BlackBerry Camera. There are several improvements for each app, which you can find out about in greater detail on BlackBerry’s blog. If you didn’t already grab it, make sure you have the most recent security update.
OnePlus 2: OxygenOS 2.2.1 is heading out the door, which brings RAW support to the phone’s camera, fixes Bluetooth and ultraSIM compatibility, Romanian language support, and a security patch. Check the OnePlus forum for all the details.
LG G Pad X 10.1: The big tablet with a really long name is the first to get AT&T’s NumberSync feature, which allows you to make and receive calls on an Android tablet or smartwatch. This is the first tablet to support the feature, though it would be nice if LG showed up with some Marshmallow. Currently the tablet it stuck on Android 5.1.1.
