Wow, what a... strange week for Larry Ellison and Oracle. It began with the Oracle CEO blowing off his keynote speech at Oracle OpenWorld on Tuesday to watch his boat race in the America’s cup final. Ellison apologized for missing the speech, saying he just couldn’t be in two boring places at once.
Then, on Wednesday Oracle Team USA actually came back to beat the boat from New Zealand to win the America’s Cup. It was the best news Ellison had heard since his bean counters told him what they were charging for Oracle Enterprise Edition licenses.
Oh yeah, and in between, Oracle was sued by a strip club in California for $30,000 an employee charged on a corporate card last year. Actually, it turns out the employee only charged $15,000 - but so did the redundant backup employee.
Anyway, I expect next week will be quieter on the news front for Oracle.
Have a great weekend, peeps!
