April 25, 2012, 11:51 AM — Today O'Reilly has announced a third new Strata data conference, and their first international venue, filling out a full year of big-data oriented conferences and shows.
The new Strata conference will held on October 1-2 at the Hilton Metropole in London, England.
The new Strata venue will make it easier for European data scientists and business analysts to make a Strata in October, since now they won't have to plan for a trip across the pond for the previously scheduled New York Strata that's happening on October 23-25. Vendors and sponsors who will want to hit these shows may face a bit of a tough choice about travel and sponsorship, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
Strata conferences tend to focus on the technical and business sides of the big-data equation, but they are not the only show around. If big data interest you, here's a brief calendar of upcoming big data events in 2012.
- Big Data and HPC in the Cloud. April 27, Boston, MA. This one-day conference hosted by Amazon Web Services features hands-on sessions and technical discussions of big data and cloud computing.
- Enterprise Data World. April 29-May 3, Atlanta, GA. A five-day mega-conference on all things data management that features two new tracks on Unstructured Data and Data-driven Business.
- Hadoop Summit. June 13-14, San Jose, CA. Sponsored by Hortonworks and Yahoo!, two major stakeholders in Hadoop, this two-day conference will feature use cases and technical sessions on Hadoop deployment and administration.
- TWDI World Conference 2012: Big Data Tipping Point. July 29-August 3, San Diego, CA. A business-intelligence focused conference that will educate attendees on how to use big data in their BI processes.
With all of these conferences, some of which are coming up even this week, there is plenty of opportunity for your business to learn more about how to leverage big data while meeting your peers who are in the same boat.
