Big changes coming in Defense spending

Yesterday, Defense Secretary Robert Gates released information about an overhaul of weapons priorities. According to today's Wall Street Journal, Gates said his proposed budget would "profoundly reform" military spending. Almost every big defense contractor is going to be affected.

Doesn't anyone want to buy Sun?

The talks between IBM and Sun Microsystems have broken down, and it looks like the $7 billion acquisition of Sun by IBM isn't going to happen. According to today's Wall Street Journal, Sun rejected the offer over the weekend, and terminated Sun's agreement to negotiate exclusively with IBM.

Enterprise software to be flat in 2009

According to a Gartner report, worldwide enterprise software revenues will be flat in 2009. The research organization had previously pegged growth at 6.6 percent, but recently revised its projection.

Everyone forgets SOHO businesses

It seems to me that everyone forgets the small business, and by "small business" I mean truly small business--what the industry has termed SOHO (small office/home office) operations with fewer than 10 or 15 employees. These are the companies that make up the last frontier of true entrepreneurship and capitalism.

Either way you look at it Microsoft Data Center management did not follow standards or best practices in this failure. In which case it makes me wonder more about the outsourcing of corporate data much less personal data.
