Microsoft releases a patch and it’s not Tuesday? Take heed.

By now, we’ve been trained to know that the first Tuesday of every month is the debut of a new crop of patches from the folks in Redmond. But when a patch is released and it’s not a Tuesday, that’s a pretty good clue that the potential for very bad things is, well, very real.

Microsoft Partner Program Finds More Paths to Profit

Windows Vista may not be doing much for our bottom line, but Microsoft is making it easier to give you more choices when it comes to structuring volume licensing deals. That should mean you’ll have more avenues for generating revenue.

As HP snaps up LeftHand, DataCore extends its right

Earlier this week, HP announced that it signed a definitive agreement to acquire LeftHand Networks, a provider of storage virtualization and iSCSI storage area network (SAN) solutions. This is a big deal, because LeftHand Networks has more than 11,000 installations across 3,000 different customers. Another iSCSI vendor, DataCore is looking to capitalize on uncertainty among resellers.

Resell branded Exchange and SharePoint services

Tech Data has jumped into a distribution agreement with USA.NET that looks pretty good. It gives integrators access to several hosted services, including Microsoft Exchange 2007 and Microsoft SharePoint 3.0.

RitzCamera.com Explains it All

The people at RitzCamera.com did their homework and finally got back to me. Their order-processing system workflow screwed up, but we can blame the government, too.

Location, Location, Location

A systems integrator friend of mine has done very well over the years by being a specialist. Of course, we all know that a specialist is someone who knows more and more about less and less until he knows everything about nothing.

Something's Coming, Something Good, If I Can Wait

The Internet is a wonderful thing. Within an hour after posting my blog entry lambasting RitzCamera.com for its online order-processing system, we heard from the company. They promised to investigate.

If You Are This Stupid, You Don’t Deserve To Be In Business

In my personal opinion, which is mine alone and in no way reflects the opinions of the Web site on which you’re reading this or its parent company, my online shopping experience with RitzCamera.com makes them the stupidest, most incompetent, inept, bungling, unskilled, worthless company I’ve ever written about in 20 years of technology journalism.

Blogs useful for integrators

Normally, I don’t spend time reading blogs. If I read all those that I’d find useful, I’d never get anything done. Nevertheless, there’s some good stuff out there.

Sidekick: The Good News & the Bad News
Either way you look at it Microsoft Data Center management did not follow standards or best practices in this failure. In which case it makes me wonder more about the outsourcing of corporate data much less personal data.

AISO founders envisioned a Web hosting company that was environmentally friendly. While the company employed energy-efficient innovations like solar panels, its infrastructure produced unacceptable power and cooling requirements. Find out how AISO leveraged AMD technology to overcome their challenge in this case study white paper.

In this whitepaper, Scalar explores the opportunity to change the landscape with respect to mission critical databases built around Oracle. Leveraging technologies such as Linux, high-end commodity processing power and Oracle RAC technology to architect, design, build and maintain database infrastructure that delivers maximum availability, reliability and performance at a fraction of traditional cost.

On a typical day, weather.com, the Web site for The Weather Channel in Atlanta, serves up between 15 million and 20 million page views. But in September 2004, when back-to-back hurricanes ransacked Florida, the peak traffic on one day more than tripled: over 70 million page views by more than 7 million unique visitors.
