iPhone and Android phones can't always see the tiny Japanese icons they send each other. Unless they use Google Hangouts.

The Chrombook Pixel seems like a prank, a vanity project, a favor someone owes, or possibly some kind of tax write-off necessity.

I think no-contract, $60, 3G-powered plans are an entirely sensible and usable thing, especially if the used smartphone market can step up.
