    Tablets are mighty big data users. According to a recent Cisco report, the average tablet handles 3.4x the amount of data as a smartphone, 517 Mbytes per month v. 150 Mbytes per month. Given the staggering growth in the number of 4G LTE-ready tablets hitting the market in the months ahead, the potential spikes in data loads on mobile networks likely will be notable. Despite the growth, the networks haven't buckled yet.

    SAP brings much more to the competitive landscape than the fastest database available with its announcement of HANA, its in-memory database. It brought a well-conceived strategy to win customers and increase market share. Oh, and it brought money to implement the plan. Lots of money -- about a half billion dollars.
