  • Researchers use mirage effect for invisibility cloak, prefer it as a noisemaker

    Posted October 5, 2011 - 6:30 am

Using electricity to superheat carbon nanotubes makes the whole sheet shimmer like a heat mirage, concealing what's behind it. Its inventors are really more interested in mastering the nanotube wiggle to make sound waves, though, not hide tanks with bad visual F/X.
  • Carbon Nanotube Speakers Powered by Lasers

    Posted March 15, 2010 - 1:02 pm

Do you want to rock out to laser-powered speakers that cover your windows and walls? Soon you may be able to, thanks to carbon nanotubes (the super-strong material under being considered for the construction of space elevators). Researchers have found that sheets of carbon nanotubes produce high-quality, audible sound when heated with infrared lasers. Just think: A stereo system built into the walls of your home, or the interior of your car, that produces excellent audio without wires or cables.
  • MIT creates nanotube process that could shrink, speed chips

    Posted September 16, 2009 - 1:20 pm

An MIT research team said they have found a new way to create the carbon nanotubes needed to build smaller and faster processors sought by manufacturers and users.
  • Nanotube chip could store data for a billion years

    Posted June 9, 2009 - 9:47 am

Researchers have demonstrated a form of archive memory using carbon nanotubes that can theoretically store a trillion bits of data per square inch for a billion years.
