Career

I am currently in sales and I need to change careers. I want a career that I enjoy with opportunities for advancement and growth. I want to earn more money, but I don't want to be miserable.  

Just to be clear, no one asked for a password. I have my Facebook and Google+ settings to ensure maximum privacy, so that anyone looking for me on either actually can have a hard time even finding me. The interviewer expressed concern that they weren't getting the "whole picture" because my privacy settings wouldn't let them see the "real" me.

I have moved around quite a bit over the past 10 years; I've lived in 3 different cities in 2 countries, and during this period have been self-employed as well as working for 4 different companies. The truth is, I tend to get bored of a job after about a year, and start getting antsy for something new.

Having worked as system engineer - got experience in Linux based systems and implementations. Now I want to upgrade my career. Move to next step for Technical Analysts or Cloud/Virtualization Architect. What is the career path ?

Outside of how long you are connected to the network ... I'm just wondering what other information Yahoo's Marissa Mayer got about telecommuting employees' activity via the VPN.

How much difference does it make to an IT career what college you attend? I mean, yeah, I understand that you are going to be more likely to get a call back if you went to Stanford, for example, versus Acme Tech, but outside of the top 10 or so schools, does it really make a significant difference over the course of your career?

When sending my resume to potential employers, what is the best format to use? Sometimes companies specify, which makes it easy, but if they don't is one format more likely to be welcomed than others? I have been using DOC format, but a friend of mine suggested that I should send my resume as a TXT file.

Is there a source that keeps track of MS certification offerings? I've looked around MS's site, and I can seem to find a easy to access source for what's new/updated. I was looking for MCITP in Virtualization for Windows Server 2012, but apparently it isn't available yet. Where can I find new certification release dates?

G. H. Hardy, a famous mathematician was scheduled to give a keynote speech at a conference. For an advance summary, he said he would present a proof of Fermat's Last Theorem, but it should be kept in secret. As it turned, he spoke on a more prosaic topic.

I saw that there is a new "Social Media Security Professional" (SMSP) certification in the works. I'm old enough to remember when there wasn't Facebook (or even MySpace), so maybe I'm a bit of a geezer, but is here really a need for a separate IT certification for social media?
