Microsoft lures Symantec resellers

Last month, Symantec decided to let its biggest customeres buy direct, and also gave SMB customers the option to renew subscriptions directly. Naturally, this had a ripple effect throughout their channel, which does not appreciate being cut out of the loop.

Microsoft is not one to sit still when an opportunity arises, and they are taking advantage of the situation to target Symantec's partners for their own Microsoft Security Software Advisor program.

Microsoft has an aggressive growth strategy for their security business, and there are plenty of incentives available, including rebates, bonuses, and vouchers for free certification exams. Microsoft's security business isn't in the front lines, and some people don't even know that it exists--but with Microsoft putting money into it and growing its channel in this segment, it's likely to become a major competitor in the security business in short order.
