VARs and social networking

A recent article in IT Channel Planet highlights a noteworthy trend I've covered before, and that is how social networking has gone from the purely social realm, to the business realm. It may have its origins in providing a platform for teens to keep up with each others' parties and social lives, but social networking sites have enormous value for those engaged in the business of sales.

According to the report, which highlights the recent Ingram Micro VentureTech Network conference proceedings, VARs are increasingly putting Web 2.0 platforms such as social networking to good business use. Plenty of VARs reported that they have achieved plenty of value from using networks like LinkedIn, Facebook, and SalesBook.com to interact with existing and prospective clients, and even to find new ones.
