Tech Data moves into data center virtualization

During rough economic times, the best strategy is finding ways to help your customers save money, and virtualization is one such tactic that is in high demand. Distributor Tech Data recently signed up DataCore Software, which has applications used to manage storage devices attached to a SAN. Using the system, instead of the one-on-one path traditionally created between servers and specific storage devices, virtual storage is instead created, whereby the physical disk location becomes irrelevant. The storage devices can therefore service multiple servers or applications, making it possible to make better use of existing storage resources.

The deal will give VARs some additional opportunities; the distribution deal applies to the SANmelody and SANsymphony products.
