Making a USB flash drive letter persistent

USB flash drives are handy devices and I often use them at work and home. For example, when I'm working on my test network and I need to install a new computer configured in a particular way, I simply pop a product DVD into the machine, plug in a flash drive that has the appropriate answer file, start the machine, and let an unattended install work its magic. And when I need to quickly transfer a file between my main workstation and an isolated machine on my test network, copying it onto a flash drive is a quick and easy way to do this.

Thanks Mitch. This works

Thanks Mitch.

This works very well for quickly assigning a constant drive letter for a USB drive (say 120 Gb) which contains all my data files.

I have recently restructured my computers so that all my data is physically separated from the computer unit/s.

One pocket sized mini slim data USB drive can now plug into any computer (running WIndows XP. That's going to substantially increase my mobility and reliability of data.

multiple computers

that is all well and good but the drive letter setting does not transfer to another computer. if you use more than one computer, you have to put the settings on the flash drive. is there any way to do this?

Either way you look at it Microsoft Data Center management did not follow standards or best practices in this failure. In which case it makes me wonder more about the outsourcing of corporate data much less personal data.
